Jatoba

Interlocked grain with a medium to coarse texture. Heartwood varies from a light orange-brown to a darker reddish brown, with some contrasting darker grayish brown streaks. Darkens up exposure to light. High rot and insect resistance, with exception to marine borers. Difficult to work with due to density and hardness, blunting on tools.

Straight grain with fine uniform texture, heartwood is light reddish brown, narrow sapwood is pale yellow-brown to almost white. High rot resistance. Easy to work with hand and machine tools, hold paint, stain and glue well.
