Douglas Fir

Straight to slightly wavy grain, medium to coarse texture. Moderately rot resistant, but susceptible to insects. Machines well, but moderate blunting effect on cutters. Stains, glues and finishes well.

aPPLICATIONS:

Veneer, beam wraps, hull planking (particularly for cold molded hull applications), decking, window trim, cladding, and structural/construction lumber.

Grain interlocked and sometimes irregular, medium to coarse texture. Heartwood usually yellow to golden or medium brown, tending to darken over time. Pale yellow sapwood. Highly rot and insect resistant. Easy to work unless interlocked grain, which may cause some tear out during surfacing. Can also cause dulling for cutter. Glues and finishes well. CAUTION: Iroko dust is a known irritant and respirators are recommended while working with this material.

Ash

High strength-to-weight ratios, high flexibility and tensile strength, and high shock resistance. Species is currently challenged due to an ongoing infestation of the invasive Emerald Ash Borer.

American Beech

Straight grain, fine to medium uniform texture. Pale cream color. Venner is slightly darker. Good workability, machines, finishes and glues well. Also good for steam bending. Can have a lot of movement.
