Western Red Cedar

Straight grain with coarse texture, hearwood is reddish to pinkish brown, often with streaks and bands of darker red/brown areas. Narrow sapwood is pale yellowish white. Eash to work with both hand and machine tools, dents and scratches easily due to its soft nature.

Interlocked grain with a medium to coarse texture. Heartwood varies from a light orange-brown to a darker reddish brown, with some contrasting darker grayish brown streaks. Darkens up exposure to light. High rot and insect resistance, with exception to marine borers. Difficult to work with due to density and hardness, blunting on tools.
